I feel like everyone else will know what's going on and I will be completely lost!
Fear not! First of all, about 10% of the people at each of our operas have never seen an opera before in their lives. You're in good company and we applaud your courage in trying something new.
We also project translations above the stage while the singers are performing. Just like the surtitles in foreign films, except they're above the action, not below it (and we don't have the whole "actor getting halfway through a speech before the sound starts up out of sync" thing going on).
Cliff's Notes: Artistic Director, Michael Borowitz, gives a pre-performance talk in the Exhibition Hall an hour before each performance. Come early, it's easier to find parking and join us for Michael's talk - he'll give you the highlights of the story...and he plays piano to share some of teh musical themes to listen for during the show. You'll be completely in the know!
Once you get there, the rest is pretty easy, just like a dinner with forty-seven forks - just see what everyone else is doing. You'll be fine.
